Veggie Castle II Review

Hello, this is Corey Ashley and welcome to another segment of 'Talk On The Town', the review section of BrooklyBaritone.com.  Today, we're reviewing, Veggie Castle.

Veggie Castle is located on 132-9 Liberty Avenue, between 132nd and 133rd Street in the Richmond Hills section of Queens, NY.

Technically, the name is Veggie Castle II, as they were originally located in Brooklyn quite some time ago.  But that shouldn't really matter, because past, present or future, this is THE restaurant that is top billing, when it comes to an all vegan selection in cuisine.  You heard right, it's all vegan at this eatery.

Mind you, there are delicacies on their menu that sound like meat or dairy, but don't be fooled, because this restaurant caters to the palettes of hardcore ital vegans to those that still aren't quite ready to crossover yet. The term 'ital' derives from the Caribbean, which Veggie Castle represents.

It's hard to figure out where to start, but I'll try.  Their juice bar is the first exhibit that greets you as you enter.  It's nicely squeezed in the front of the eatery, just like a fresh glass of orange juice or carrot juice or beet juice or a shot of wheatgrass or a smoothie or anything else worth juicing for that matter.  Whatever your body craves to get better and healthier, they can juice it.

Now onto their buffet style selection of foods.  Let's say you want a simple favorite like, macaroni and cheese with barbecue drumsticks, you'll be really pleased and surprised that they can serve that up, vegan style of course.  The menu is no stranger to beautifully prepared veggies like broccoli, carrots, kale, chick peas, pumpkin, asparagus, zucchini, as a matter of fact, everything in between asaparagus and zucchini is covered here.  The likes of Lo Mein, Cassava, Jerk Tofu, Roti and Curry Chicken displays the roots of their Caribbean heritage.

Before I forget, this restaurant is also host to a bakery on premises.  That means they have an assortment of vegan patties like chicken, ackee, fish and callaloo.  They also have currant rolls, buns, rock cakes and, wait for it, cheese cakes.  Yes, they have cheese cake that is so good, it will have you saying 'This can't be vegan!'.  They also do catering and you can have cakes to order.  It's definitely worth it.

This is a place that if you know about it, you definitely make the effort to frequent there.  If you don't know about it, well now you do.  The staff is friendly, courteous and make sure you enjoy your experience there.  With the clean environment, lush fruits and vegetables and awesome foods to make your mouth water, you'll definitely be back and tell friends.  You can give them a call at 718 641 8342.

It's time for me to go again.  Thank you for checking out 'Talk On The Town' on BrooklynBaritone.com.  Of course, you can check this out on YouTube or Vimeo.  This is Corey Ashley signing off, talk to you soon.
